ActBlue, the Democratic Party’s online fundraising platform, has stopped processing donations for the Governor of New York.
“You attempted to make a contribution to a fundraising page that does not have active recipients: either the page owner has removed all committees or organizations from the page, or we have finished processing contributions for those committees or organizations, ”an ActBlue fundraising page for Cuomo reads.
The fundraising organization has confirmed that it has made the decision to stop processing donations to the Governor of New York. Cuomo’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The move takes place after afound that Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women, and as the State Assembly Judiciary Committee said, his Cuomo impeachment investigation is nearing completion.
New York is holding its next gubernatorial election in 2022, and Cuomo said inthat he was planning to run for a fourth term. During the pandemic, Cuomo’s popularity increased across the country with his daily COVID-19 briefings that provided information on the coronavirus pandemic. The briefings calmed many Americans and earned him both a and one on its management of the pandemic.
But earlier this year he was charged with sexual harassment, which led Attorney General Letitia James to open an investigation into the allegations. James announced earlier this week that the investigation concluded that Cuomo had “sexually harassed several women and in so doing violated federal and state laws.”
Since James released the investigation’s findings, local, state and national politicians – including President Biden – have said Cuomo should step down. The state assembly opened an impeachment inquiry in March and said on Thursday it planned to conclude it soon.
ActBlue’s move cuts core donations to Cuomo. Since its founding in 2004, the digital tech organization has provided an essential fundraising tool for Democrats.
